My Beauty Is The Beauty Of The Other(ed) Places (2022-2023) looks at East African adornment rituals, using fabric, jewelry and ritualistic devices to reimagine new and equitable aesthetic and sartorial futures in the Horn of Africa. It looks at the ways in which we are able to simulate remembering, the ways in which we are misremembered, the ways in which we account for the omission of bodies & histories deemed peripheral; irredeemable. I am interested in studying the silences that exist in language, what they represent, what is being omitted, what is unsayable. Each of the works in this project were created during the time I spent in residency at Black Rock Senegal (July-September 2022).
